The Beginning

Cpl. Shane Parsons, USA

U.S. Army Cpl. Shane Parsons was wounded during an Iraq mission Sept. 30, 2006 when his humvee rolled over a road side bomb. He died twice before reaching the Combat Support Hospital. He was treated and transferred to Germany for more surgery, and then transferred to Walter Reed Hospital for additional treatment. Cpl. Parsons has lost both legs and suffered severe head trauma. Cindy Parsons, a single mother, left her home and job to be at her son's side through mulitple surgeries and lengthy stays around the country. One would think that this family was facing it's toughest challenge, however, the story begins here.

While at her son's bedside, the Parsons Ohio home suffered a water leak leading to devastating black mold that destroyed the home and everything inside. When Hope For The Warriors™ was notified about the Parsons, the original home had been torn down and a donated modular home was placed at the site. Extensive work was still required along with a lead team to organize and complete the job before Shane returned home 2 years later, including special adaptations and an inhouse work out room to allow for continued rehabilitation.

With the help of Hope For The Warriors™ Board member,Harry Bridgwood, the project was brought to the attention of Richard Wood, President of Plaza Construction in NYC. Mr. Wood appealed to Turner Construction, parent company of Lathrop, a local Ohio construction firm. Another Hope For The Warriors connection brought in Vocon, an architectural firm in Ohio also pleased to provide pro bono assistance. The team was built.

Major remodeling is now underway with a supportive community and a lenghy list of volunteers, including the local Patriot Guard. Endless Pools, a company that manufactures and installs inhome therapy pools, in support of the Parsons family is providing a therapy pool for Shane's workout room at half the retail price.

AUGUST 4, 2008

Before any work on the house could be started, a new septic system had to be installed. In naddition, a large debris pile, left when the modular home was placed on the homesite, had to removed. Work begins today, August 4 to replace the septic and water lines. Stay tuned to this story - we will continue to update with progress reports and pictures.
